In the news…

Google canceled April Fool’s Day. Mother Nature didn’t get the memo so she struck Idaho and Montana with a 6.5 earthquake; fortunately no injuries or damage were reported.

Heads up fellow Americans: our leaders and scientists finally agree on something. The next two weeks are going to get rough. The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation projects the US is 13 days away from peak coronavirus resource use. By April 15 there will be a need for more than 220,000 hospital beds, along with shortages of at least 13,000 ICU beds and 26,000 ventilators. IHME also projects there will be more than 80,000 COVID-19 deaths in the US by August. Please heed all the warnings, stay home, and be safe.

By coordinating with manufacturers and suppliers across the globe, their team is sourcing gowns, gloves, and masks. Meanwhile governors, health care workers and policy advisors are asking FEMA and the federal government to coordinate bulk purchasing and distribution of medical equipment to eliminate bidding issues.

The US coronavirus task force has frozen foreign aid to offset PPE shortages. Companies including Ford and GE plus GM and Ventec are partnering to manufacture ventilators. Home crafters and professionals are making millions of masks while health experts reconsider recommendations. The 3D printing community is also stepping up to make face shields and other needed medical equipment.

In my personal life…

As a mom, I can’t help but worry about son Reid living in Connecticut, sandwiched between New York City and Boston. He’s an introvert so probably faring better than some of his extroverted house mates. Hoping everyone is getting along and not going stir crazy.

Like typical GenX couples, Greg and I spend time watching tv together. John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight is one of our favorites.

Over the weekend we binge watched Ozark. The entire cast is incredible though Julia Garner as Ruth and Tom Pelphrey as Ben were stand outs this season.

We also watch Walking Dead. If we lived in that fictional universe, Greg would be Daryl and I would be Carol I think.

For those of you who haven’t yet seen Greg dance shirtless, Jack Black looks remarkably similar. Greg does a pretty good impression of the Caddy Shack gopher too.
